Plagiarism Policy
The ASEAN Social Development Journal (ASDAL) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. The journal strictly prohibits plagiarism in all its forms and maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct.
- Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, ideas, data, or images from other sources without proper citation
- Submitting work that has been previously published without appropriate acknowledgment (self-plagiarism)
- Paraphrasing substantial portions of another author’s work without proper attribution
- Improper citation practices
- Using third-party materials without permission
Plagiarism may occur intentionally or unintentionally; however, both constitute violations of publication ethics.
- Similarity Screening
All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software prior to peer review.
The journal applies the following similarity thresholds:
- Overall similarity index should not exceed 20%
- Similarity from a single source should not exceed 5%
Manuscripts exceeding these limits may be:
- Returned to authors for revision
- Rejected prior to peer review (desk rejection)
- Rejected outright in cases of serious ethical violations
Editorial judgment will consider the context of similarity, including references, methodology descriptions, and commonly used terminology.
- Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication
Authors must not submit manuscripts that substantially overlap with previously published work, including their own. Any related prior publications must be clearly disclosed at the time of submission.
Redundant publication, duplicate submission, and salami-slicing practices are strictly prohibited.
- Handling of Plagiarism Cases
If plagiarism is detected:
Before Publication
The manuscript will be rejected, and authors may be prohibited from submitting to the journal for a specified period.
After Publication
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will:
- Conduct an investigation
- Issue a correction or retraction if necessary
- Notify the author’s affiliated institution when appropriate
All actions will be taken transparently to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
- Author Responsibility
Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and proper citation of all sources. Submission of a manuscript to ASDAL implies that the authors have checked the manuscript for similarity and ensured compliance with ethical standards.
